  1. 6 weeks pregnant and a few months before starting IVF i cleaned up my diet to be gluten free. Now im wondering if i introduce gluten back into my diet – would this shock my body/embryos or is if safe to reintroduce gluten? (I dont have celiacs or any allergies)

    • Unless you are gluten intolerant it should have no ill-effects!

      Good luck!

    • Hi. I had icsi to create by embryo. I was told slight increase in imprinting disorders with icsi. They did PGD testing on my embryo and it was euploid. Do you know if this PGD testing includes imprinting disorders ?
Is there a list somewhere of the disorders it looks for?
      Thank you

  2. Hello dr sher! Is there any downside in staying on HRT (progesterone and Estrodial) for longer than 10 weeks? Just feels so sudden to stop all of a sudden at 10 weeks, wondering if any downside of “too much” progesterone or “too much” estrodial if I am taking HRT from weeks 10 – 12?
Also, how do you decide when to start weaning down the progesterone and estrodial at 8 – 10 weeks? If I am currently on 1.5ml of progesterone in oil, and taking 2 estradiol tablets per day, would you cut to 1ml of progesterone and 1 tablet per day starting in week 8, and then even less at week 9 – 10?
    Thanks so much!

    • In my opinion, there is no benefit continuing beyond 10w. You can safely stop cold turkey without weaning off the hormones.

  3. We transferred 2 pgs tested 5 day blast. I went and had a hcg test done at 9dpt. The result was 99. Do you think it is still possible both implanted? I’m going again in a few days to look at numbers again. Wanted to see if you knew of anyone who had this number 9dpt and still went on to have twins?

    • It is possibly a multiple!

  4. 6 weeks pregnant. Dark brown spotting when wiping after going to washroom . Shud i be concerned?

    • Vaginal bleeding occurs in about 25% of all pregnancies. When it happens, it almost invariably raises the concern of pregnancy loss (miscarriage). Bleeding can also be a sign of a tubal (ectopic) pregnancy, and in cases where the distended Fallopian tube ruptures it can precipitate a life-threatening crises. However, a small amount of painless vaginal bleeding can also be the result of normal embryo implantation (i.e. implantation bleeding) or it can result a local erosion of the vagina or cervix and/or trauma during intercourse.
Notwithstanding, in virtually all cases the occurrence of early pregnancy vaginal bleeding congers concerns or even alarm regarding the possibility of miscarriage. And when this happens to women who conceived following infertility treatment, the alarm often turns into panic. However, the truth is that in most such cases the bleeding soon stops and the pregnancy proceeds unabated to the birth of a healthy baby. However, because some do progress and end in miscarriage, and in most cases, only time will tell how things will ultimately turn out, we use the term “threatened miscarriage” to describe such early bleeding. The term “inevitable miscarriage” is used once symptoms and signs confirm a miscarriage is in progress. The term “complete miscarriage” is used if all products of conception are passed, leaving the uterus “empty”. An “incomplete miscarriage” refers to cases where some products remain retained in the uterus.

      Good luck!

  5. Dear dr. Sher,

My name is Diana, I’m 9dp5dt and today after doing a long-haul trip, came to the hotel, had my progesterone pessaries (2x 200mg), and went to bed. When waking up, I went to the bathroom and noticed when wiping, a bit of a brown/dark-green discharge on the paper.
I also have a headache since.

The discharge only happened then though, like 7-8 hrs ago, no more discharge or stain when wiping since.

I’m just concerned that the flight affected my prospects of a successful treatment or this is normal? I feel that is maybe a bit late for an implantation bleeding of a blastocyst embryo?

I would appreciate so much your advice doctor.
And thank you deeply for your kindness for all the women you get to help in this journey. ?

    Warm regards,
    Diana

    • The flight did not cause the bleeding. You need to do a blood pregnancy test and then repeat it in 2 days to see if the hCG level doubles (as it should).

      Good luck!
