What are your thoughts on the use of N-Acetyl cysteine? I took it thru egg retrievals and up to my FET. I only had one chromosomally normal embryo and transferred it. I saw a study from 2008 that says the supplement reduces miscarriages. I want to continue using it but my RE doesn’t really believe in any supplements or “non-western” medicine. Do you advise your patients against its use after transfer?

Is it true that DQ Alpha, HLA testing and ATA is really only needed if there are NKA cells? I believe I read in one blog of yours that IF you show activated NKA cells, then you have to do further testing… Is that correct? Thank you very much.

Hi Dr. Sher,
I’m 43, and have just completed my 2ND IVF process. At 11dp3dt, my beta was 76, and the nurse called to tell me I was “very pregnant.” My beta was repeated today at 15dp3dt, but my beta has only increased to 187. At the time of transfer, 4 embryos were implanted. At this point, is all hope lost? My beta test will be repeated in 2 days.

Keep repeating the beta test every 2 days to see if it picks up. It really needs to double about every 48 hours in early pregnancy.

What is the underlying cause of increased circulating LH in women with DOR? Can insulin resistenance (without PCOS or DOR) cause the same?
In women with DOR, declining eggs in the ovaries elicit a feedback response by the hypothalamus in the brain that causes the pituitary gland to increase output of basal FSH and LH.
In women with PCOS, elevated LH is a genetic component of the condition.
